Steel for the Silhouette. Brass for the Character.
Our Roman Lorica Segmentata armour combines handcrafted 20-gauge mild steel with brass accents and edging. Polished silver-tone torso bands meet warm brass borders, layered shoulder plates, black leather straps and lace-up connections. It is a distinctive torso-and-shoulder replica for a collection or carefully fitted non-contact costume.
You may love the history. You may love the character you can create. Or you may be choosing it for someone whose imagination has always reached beyond the everyday. Whatever brings you here, choose a piece that gives that interest a place in your life.
The Difference Is in the Details
The brass accents outline the shoulder plates, neckline and lower edge, bringing definition to the segmented steel. Hinges, studs and fittings add warmth against the polished metal, while the crossed front lacing gives the assembly its recognisable structure.
This is a modern Roman-inspired replica, not an original antique, a complete head-to-toe suit or certified protective equipment. Its commanding appearance comes from its construction and contrast, not a promise of battle performance.

Choose by Measurements, Not Gender
For an adult man or woman planning a costume, start with measurements over the intended clothing and suitable underlayers. Chest circumference alone is not enough: shoulder width, torso length, closures and freedom of movement all affect suitability.
Send us your measurements before ordering if you need help reviewing fit. The listed adjustment range is not a guarantee of comfort for every body shape. Check straps, lacing, edges, weight and movement before wearing, and avoid direct contact between metal edges and bare skin.
Bring Your Character into the Room
Imagine preparing for a costume portrait. The steel catches the light; the brass outlines the layers. You straighten your shoulders, and the character you have been imagining begins to feel tangible.
For a non-contact stage appearance, historical presentation, cosplay session or Halloween costume, build the look around the armour rather than burying it beneath extra props. Between occasions, display it securely where you can enjoy the workmanship.
Any costume use depends on suitable fit, comfort and the venue's requirements. This piece is not for SCA combat, contact reenactment, protective LARP or activities requiring impact protection.
A Gift for the Imagination You Admire
For a collector, a history enthusiast or someone who enjoys creating memorable characters, this is a gift that says you have noticed what makes them light up.
A birthday, graduation, anniversary or personal milestone can become the occasion. The message can be simpler: “Keep the courage to be yourself.” Put it in a note alongside the gift, and let the object hold the memory of why you chose it.
Make the Dedication Personal
Personalization in 40+ languages is available subject to suitable space, surface and layout. Share your proposed wording and preferred component before ordering so we can confirm feasibility and timing. Engraving is not included with the standard armour.
Once agreed, buy the Aladean Personalization Add-On and armour in the same cart. Enter exact wording, preferred language and agreed surface in order notes. We review the service scope, applicable charges and timing with you. Approve your digital mockup before custom production. Additional wording does not automatically replace the brass edging or existing decoration.
Care for the Materials
Keep the armour dry and wipe gently after handling. Moisture left on mild steel can cause corrosion. Ask us for finish-specific cleaning, storage and leather-care guidance before using oils, polish or conditioners. Brass may develop patina over time; use only a treatment suitable for the actual finish if you prefer to maintain its appearance.
Small differences in handmade finish and measurements can occur. Store or display the assembly securely, away from places where it could fall, catch clothing or present exposed edges to passers-by.
Before You Order
Is this a full armour suit?
No. This listing supplies the torso-and-shoulder assembly only.
What distinguishes this version?
Brass accents and edging frame the polished steel plates, including the shoulder sections and lower edge.
Is it protective armour?
No tested protective performance or combat approval is established. Use it for display or appropriate non-contact costume activities only.
How do I check the fit?
Measure over intended underlayers and send us chest, shoulder and torso measurements. Check the whole fit, not just the listed chest range.
Can I plan it for an event?
Share your destination and required date before ordering so we can confirm current preparation and delivery expectations, including any agreed personalization.

Detailed Description
The Armor That Outlived an Empire
"A warrior is not defined by the battles he wins. He is defined by what he leaves behind."
There is a reason the Roman Lorica Segmentata is still recognized two thousand years after the last legion marched. It was not just protection. It was identity. It told the world — and the man wearing it — exactly who he was, what he stood for, and what he was willing to defend.
Aladean's Roman Lorica Segmentata is built on that same principle.
Every segment of 20 Gauge Mild Steel is shaped with intention. The Brass accents catch the light the way they did on the fields of Gaul and Britannia. The hand-polished finish does not hide the metal — it honors it. And the adjustable leather straps ensure this armor moves with you, not against you, whether you're commanding a LARP battlefield, standing at a reenactment, or simply standing in a room where it demands to be noticed.
A Gift That Cannot Be Forgotten
Most gifts are opened and forgotten by Tuesday.
This one gets mounted on a wall.
When you give the Aladean Lorica Segmentata, you are not giving a product. You are giving a story — one that begins the moment it is unwrapped and continues every time someone walks into the room and stops to ask: "Where did you get that?"
It is the gift for the man who has everything, because he does not have this. It is the gift for the son turning 18, the father retiring after decades of service, the veteran who carried real armor so others wouldn't have to, the groomsman who stood beside you when it mattered, the history lover who has spent a lifetime reading about Rome and never held a piece of it.
Engrave it with his name. A date. A line from a letter you never sent. A quote that shaped who he became.
Available in 40+ languages — because the language of legacy is universal.
When the Battle Is Over, It Becomes the Room
Not every heirloom lives in a box.
Mounted on a wooden armor stand in a study, library, home office, or entryway, the Lorica Segmentata transforms any space into a statement. Guests do not walk past it. They stop. They ask. They reach out to touch it — and feel the weight of something real in a world that has forgotten what real feels like.
It belongs beside leather-bound books and aged whiskey. It belongs in the room where decisions are made and stories are told. It belongs in the home of someone who understands that the objects we surround ourselves with say something about who we are.
This is not décor. This is a declaration.
Caring for Your Lorica — Keeping the Legacy Alive
Mild Steel is honest metal. It does not pretend to be stainless. It asks only one thing of you: a little attention, and it will last generations.
Routine Care (After Every Use or Handling)
- Wipe down all steel surfaces with a clean, dry microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints and moisture — the oils from skin accelerate oxidation.
- Apply a thin coat of Renaissance Wax or light mineral oil (food-grade mineral oil works perfectly) using a soft cloth. Buff gently to a light sheen.
- Never leave the armor damp or in contact with moisture.
Seasonal Maintenance (Every 3–6 Months)
- Inspect all steel segments for early signs of surface rust. If found, remove gently with 0000-grade steel wool and re-oil immediately.
- Re-apply Renaissance Wax or mineral oil across all steel surfaces for long-term protection.
- Condition the leather straps with leather conditioner or neatsfoot oil to keep them supple and prevent cracking.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place away from humidity.
- If storing long-term, wrap in a breathable cloth (not plastic — plastic traps moisture).
- A wooden armor stand is ideal — it keeps the piece aired, displayed, and ready.
Treat it the way the Romans treated their equipment: with discipline and respect. It will reward you with a lifetime of service.
Handcrafted by artisans who believe that what we make with our hands outlasts everything else we do with our lives.
